Kick-off to Fall Families

Fall means so many great things.  School, football, cooler temperatures.  And for photographers it means families.  I’m not sure if that is a nation-wide trend or just in the hot, hot desert.  I mean nobody wants to be photographed when it’s 110 degrees outside, right?

I really do love photographing families.  Of course children are my passion, but what do families generally have?  That’s right, kids!  The dynamic of every family is so different and that has always intrigued me.  And even more I am always amazed at how different 2 (or 3 or 4..) children are who are being raised in the same home by the same parents.  It’s something that I marvel at in my own home and I love to watch that in other families too.  Are family sessions the easiest sessions out there.  Heavens no!  It’s a tough job for sure, but I find that the toughest are usually the most rewarding in the end.  The ones you have to really work for become your favorites.  Every time I have an active little in front of my camera, you know the kind because we all have one, parents get so worried that that kid is ruining everything.  “I’m so sorry” is uttered countless times.  I get wanting that perfectly posed family photo, the one where everyone is looking at smiling their very best smile, but I say embrace the terrible twos, the tyrannical threes.  That is your life right now,  in 4 years you will have a child who will sit and pose because he knows how to behave, or she finally gets how a bribe really works, but for now that mischievous little human wrecking your family session is stealing the show and running away with my heart most likely!
